The BIG KO Of 2010 By: Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez

Let me start out by Congratulating Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez on his impressive KO victory in the second round over his worthy opponent Paul Williams. That over hand left which was heard all around the world that landed flush on the face of Williams whose face suddenly dropped as well as his entire body was out cold on the canvas. No way Williams was getting up from this one!

I read an interesting article by Gabriel Montoya on Max Boxing News on how HBO treated Sergio Martinez into either taking the fight under their terms or no fight. Williams excuses for wanting a Catch Weight of 158lbs, but he comes into the fight at 168lbs. All I  could say is that Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez did not leave it in the hands of the judges and maybe just maybe he could now get the RESPECT that he DESERVES as indeed a top contender for the Honor of  # 1 POUND for POUND category.

I had said this over a year ago that by this time this year Sergio Maravilla Martinez would have to be recognized as the Best Pound for Pound Boxer in the World. In No way am I taking away from the Great Manny Pacquiao. All I’m doing is going with the Boxing Hype that has always been attached to Paul Williams as being the most feared boxer in the sport. I guess Sergio must not have known that either in the first fight when the judges stole a close fight from him nor this time when he put Paul Williams to sleep in the second round!

JRSportsBrrief’s this man gets it and has great way of expressing himself as well. All you sport fans should check him out he’s GOOD!

JR, it’s kind of funny you think Max Kellerman is talking nonsense. He the only one of the HBO commentators that is objective and calls it as it is! Emanuel Steward  always has a dog in the fight and is as bias as they come. Jim Lampley is all over the place somewhat like O’Reilly on Fox News and Larry Merchant is now the new Howard Cosell.

Personally I would like to see Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez take on the only man who has beat him and that would be Antonio Margarito. But at a none “Catch Weight” he’s the Middle Weight Champion of the World and middle weight is 160lbs. After he avenges his only career loss to Antonio Margarito, I would love to see him fight Floyd “I’m Too Scare To Fight Someone My Own Size Or The Pacman” Mayweather. That would be an excellent fight that would make the winner of the fight again at 160lbs prove if Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez is for REAL which he IS, or prove that Floyd is just a PUPPET of the elites in Boxing to generate money for them!

This is who I would like to see Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez fight all at 160 lbs and with Manny Pacquiao at 154lbs. and even at that weight Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez I truly believe is too much for even the Great Warrior Manny Pacquiao to even think of fighting.

Paquiao I love you! But I want to see you fight men your own size! Like another one with Juan Manuel Marquez. You have nothing more to prove! You are ONE GREAT FIGHTER who has the COMPLETE PACKAGE! You are fast,strong, have great cardio and have become an excellent ring technician to go along with the courage of what GREAT WARRIORS & LEGENDS are made off! A pleasure to watch and a gentleman inside as well as outside the ring. You have nothing to prove and all to lose if you continue to go up in weight and fight men that are bigger and stronger and if they get LUCKY and catch you with a bomb that will be the end. People tend to have short memories and I can just hear all the nonsense they will be saying. CHAMP continue to give us great fights but please fight guys your own size!

Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez you are the Undisputed Middle Weight Champ of the World and in my opinion the #1 Pound for Pound in the World as well! They have to appease to YOUR Terms , I wish you all the success that you deserve and thank you for always giving it your best! Once again Congratulations Champ for your GREAT victory and for conducting yourself as a gentleman as well, you are an asset to Boxing!

One Fan’s Perspective On Boxing

A life long Boxing fan, that appreciates the physical conditioning that it takes to be able to box for 12 rounds or 36 minutes. Who has followed the sport since the age of 11 and till this day, still enjoys watching the sport and following the new warriors and future legends in the making.

Who could ever forget the fighter of years past, when the true warrior would fight one another for the mere fact of proving who was the best from their respective weight division. When it just wasn’t about the money but for the opportunity to have one’s name mentioned in the same sentence with the legends of the past. Sad to say that these days the fighters are more business savvy then their past counter parts, and many times we don’t see the best fighting each other when they are at the top of their game in their prime.

Yet on those rare occasions that we do have the opportunity to meet the likes of Manny Paquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, or Sergio Martinez who will fight anyone that are consider to be the best in their weight division and even move up in weight to fight those who are perceived to be the best. In so they do an amazing job in giving fans like myself a pleasure to watch them demonstrate the art of boxing giving it their best and in the process whether getting the win or not their stock climbs higher and we the fan get the awesome opportunity to see the next generation of boxing’s future legends.

One Fan’s Perspective On Boxing

Since I was a kid and saw my first boxing fight I was hooked. The fight was Ali vs. Frazier, the classic match up and a fight that I will always remember. It was Madison Square Garden, New York, 8th March, 1971. Since then I was hooked and have followed boxing.

Who could ever forget Forman Vs. Frazier, or Marvin ” Marvelous” Hagler vsThomas “Hitman” Hearns. Roberto Duran famous “no mas” against Leonard in their second fight. Aaron Pryor vs. Alexis Arguello or Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield.

Cintron falls out of ring, Williams wins decision

CARSON, Calif. — Paul Williams earned a bizarre victory Saturday night when Kermit Cintron wasn’t allowed to continue after tumbling through the ropes and landing on a ringside table early in the fourth round.

This was awful and it should have been rendered a no decision. I will wait to see the re-match and I do believe that Paul Williams should win the fight, either by decision or knockout.

Margarito wins unanimous decision over Garcia

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico — Antonio Margarito won a unanimous decision over Roberto Garcia on Saturday in his first fight in more than 15 months following a one-year suspension.

Margarito outclassed Garcia, who absorbed most of the punishment and was knocked down in the first round of the 10-round bout by a right-left-right combination.

Margarito, who weighed in at 154 pounds, improved to 38-6 with 27 KOs. Garcia fell to 28-3 with 21 KOs. Margarito, a former welterweight champion, was suspended a year after being caught with illegal hand wraps in a loss on Jan, 24, 2009, against Shane Mosley.

Margarito, 32, was a winner on all three judges’ cards: 99-89, 100-88 and 99-90.

He used his longer arms to fend off the 30-year-old Garcia, who lacked the quickness needed to overcome his opponent’s reach advantage and boxing savvy.

Margarito claimed he knew nothing about the illegal wraps and blamed his trainer Javier Capetillo, whom he fired.

Margarito is back, after his devastating knock out loss to Mosley. I was surprised in how Margarito was manhandled in their bout. He had just been found to have had illegal wrapping which  most definitely affected him with Mosley, who just walked all over him.

I gained respect for Mayweather after watching him fight against Mosley. With the exception of the second round in which he was hurt, I gave him every single round after that. The first round could have gone either way or been even.

Now Mosley was accused by Floyd  Mayweather of steroid use, the same as Pacquiao. Whether this is true or not, it worked out perfect for Floyd who surprised me in the way he actually took the fight to Mosley and made it fun to watch. Rather than his typical show boating and running which make him look clownish, foolish, and boring to watch.

Sergio Martinez New WBC/WBO Middleweight Champion Of The World

Sergio Martinez, could be considered after Manny Pacquiao as not only the second best pound for pound fighter in the world but also one of the most exciting boxers as well. Once again he proves, to the world that he is for real. His fight against Kermit Cintron was one of the worst decisions of the previous year. He beat him easily, and the judges stole the fight by calling it a draw. Then he goes up in weight takes on Paul Williams, one of the best & most feared fighter in the world on short notice. Beats the bigger opponent in a close fight that was one of the best fights of the year, and is robbed again. Although it was a close tough fight, he won and for the second time in a year was at the mercy of judges who robbed him of the victory.

Now comes the opportunity for Sergio Martinez to fight for the middle weight title against world champion Kelly Pavlik.  A bigger,stronger, younger opponent who’s only real loss was to veteran boxer Bernard Hopkins who took him to school. Pavlik lost that fight before it even started. He was intimidated and it affected him through the whole fight. Unlike his fight with Hopkins , Pavlick was the bigger and stronger man in this bout and wasn’t at all intimidated by the smaller Argentine fighter. They both went at it, giving it there all in a good showing for both fighters.

This was another good fight for the quick handed Argentine who showed his good boxing skills, while at the same time his awkward style of boxing of moving in and out picking his shots with great accuracy was just too much for Pavlick to handle. I’m glad for all the boxing fans around the world, that the right unanimous decision was rendered. Good fight, and Sergio Martinez stock continues to rise the more that America gets to see him.

I would love to see the Floyd Mayweather fight Sergio Martinez at 154 lb. although this wont ever happen for the obvious reasons. Floyd couldn’t handle someone his own size with comparable hand speed, yet we can all dream. If Mosley comes prepared he should be able to dethrone the paper tiger that is Floyd Mayweather. I would like to see Sergio Martinez avenge his only real loss to date against Antonio Margarito. I would prefer to see the fight at 154 lb. I think that’s a better weight division for Martinez.

The true mark of a champion, isn’t the way one handles oneself while your winning. Rather it’s the way you handle defeat. To Sergio Martinez credit, he has proven himself up till now while being the victim of two horrendous decisions made by the judges on his previous fights with Kermit Cintron and Paul Williams to handle the judges decisions with class. Also when the Antonio Margarito illegal hand wrapping came into question before his KO lost to Mosley. Cintron was asked if it was possible that he could have encountered the same fate as Coto due to the illegal hand wraps.  He said that it was possible that Margarito could have used the illegal tactic in their bout. Yet when Martinez was asked the same question, he was humble enough to say the truth and not make an attempt to try to spin it. He basically said he got whoop that night.

Sergio Martinez  style of boxing with his hands down is just the way he chooses to fight. I don’t care about the show boating either, but the man is an extremely exciting fighter to watch. And in the four fights I seen him in, he has fought his heart out. Good for you Sergio, continue to fight as you have and soon everyone will know what many of us already do, you’re one great champion!

Pound For Pound The Top Three

Who are the best three pound four pound fighters in the world?   My pick would be as  follows: Number 1. Manny Paquiao this little man is tough, he throws so many punches and is constantly on the attack. He is un-believable. His fight with De La Hoya, was spectacular. He destroyed Rickey Hatton,  I thought he was dead after he fell to the canvas. His last fight with Miguel Cotto was another fight in which Pacquiao just demolished his opponent.Cotto is an excellent fighter his only previous loss was to Antonio Margarito. After Margarito’s T.K.O. at the hands of Shane Mosley a fighter who Cotto had beaten. Margarito got suspended from boxing in the U.S. for one year for illegally wrapping his fist. We can then begin to appreciate what a great fighter Pacquiao really is. He gave more damage to Cotto then Margarito who used plaster of paris on his wrapping!

Lets not forget the two great fights between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. Those two fights will probably go down in the all time great fights.

Sergio Martinez, wow another great fighter. The Argentine fighting out Spain who now has relocated to California is awesome. A smart fighter quick fisted, good counter puncher, goes to the body picks his punches and has an excellent chin. He also has the power to knock you out.

2. Sergio Martinez

He has been the victim of two bad decisions in 2009. He decked Kirmit Cintron twice in their bout, out boxed him and made a mess of his face. The judges gave it a draw. One lousy decision.

Then he takes on Paul Williams in the 160 LB. division, a fighter that no one wants to fight. Kelly Pavlik had postponed twice. He gives Williams a beating in a fight that will most likely be one of the top three fight of 2009 and again for the second time in a year they rob the victory from him. This fight was a close fight, but never the less Sergio Martinez was robbed!

Juan Manuel Marquez a great boxer! His two memorable fights with Pacquiao. Who could forget the fight in which Manny puts him down three times in the first round only to then find himself going down to the canvas in the fifth. Those were two great fights and the toughest opponent that Manny has faced to date.

3. Juan M. Marquez ? 3.Floyd Mayweather

His fight with Floyd Mayweather was a good fight. I didn’t see the fight like the way the commentators or judges viewed it. It was a very close fight into the ninth round. Mayweather landed a flash knockdown. Marquez ran into a straight jab, he went down and got right up again. The last four rounds of the fight Mayweather was landing all his jabs smack on Marquez face. Which won him the fight.Never the less Mayweather didn’t make the original weight and he was obviously the bigger and stronger of the two. Marquez being the fighter that he is took the fight any ways.

Now I read about how Mayweather may want to consider fighting against Martinez as oppose to Williams who those that will benefit from that match up say that Williams is the strongest of the two opponents for Floyd. Well Martinez beat Williams although the judges stole the fight from him and gave it to Paul. Martinez was the victim of two horrendous decisions last year. Even though on paper it shows one draw and one loss the fans of boxing know the truth, that he won both fights and in the process Sergio Martinez stock has risen 100 fold.
